Jarvinator Saves Planet Earth
Dr Marsh had programmed the Jarvinator to express human emotions, so the Jarvinator smiled. Then he turned to the north-west, hurtling through the air at the speed of light.
“First mission successful,” he said. “Now for the second mission. The western coast of Britain and parts of Europe have been built in low-lying areas. There are large numbers of people living in big cities like London, Amsterdam and Venice. They will all be drowned if I don’t save them.”
The Jarvinator flew over the North Atlantic Ocean as the next towering wave drew closer to the coast. He dived down and began digging another massive trench, from Greenland in the north down to the African coast of Morocco. As he streaked back up into the sky, he could see the huge wall of water reaching the trench. It suddenly slowed down and the water level dropped as the ocean fell into the enormous gaping hole in the ground.
The people in the cities had some gentle waves cover the ground, and the carpets and basements got wet, but no-one was injured and no buildings were destroyed.
The Jarvinator smiled once more, but then a frown appeared on his face.
“I’m running short of time,” he said. “I have to get to the Pacific Ocean as fast as I can. The tsunami there has beengrowing while I’ve been saving the rest of the planet.”
He took off in a westerly direction, hoping he would be in time. But as he reached the Pacific Ocean and hovered overhead, he could see that it would take too long to dig another trench. A terrifying mountain of water was bearing down from Los Angeles in the United States of America to Lima in Peru.
Most of Central America would be wiped out completely if the wave reached the land. The Jarvinator ran all possible solutions through his advanced computer brain. There was only one chance left. With the speed of light, he flew to Stanford, California which has the largest satellite dish in the world. Wrenching the 46-metre diameter dish from its base, he flew back to the northern end of the tsunami wave as it approached Los Angeles.
