Eddie and the Rainbird

An old man with a hat and walking stick came hobbling by.

“Is it okay if I sit here a minute and rest, young man?”

“Sure,” said Eddie, shuffling over.

“Out on a bike ride?” asked the old man.

“Yep,” said Eddie. “I’m looking for the rainbird.”

“The rainbird? Well, why would that be?”

“Because we need rain to put the fires out, so I have to get him to make the clouds laugh,” Eddie explained.

The old man’s eyes twinkled. “Of course, the laughing rainbird. Well, I haven’t seen any around here for a while. There might be some over in the next bay. Maybe your Mum could drive you round there for a look.”

“Good idea,” said Eddie, nodding.

“Good luck,” said the old man, tipping his hat and hobbling away.
