Eddie and the Rainbird
VAROOM-ROOM-ROOM-ROOM-ROOM! The jetski took off like lightning! It powered away from the beach, bumping up and down on the waves, walls of water flying up in streams of white spray. It felt amazing, like riding a motorbike on the ocean!
Eddie slowed down as he got closer to the island, steering between the boats moored nearby. He pulled onto a sandy patch and started climbing the rocks. Through the thick bushes he went, till he got to the trees in the middle of the island.
They were so tall he had to lean right back to see up into the branches.
“Rainbird?” Eddie called out. “Where are you, rainbird?”
There was no sound except for the leaves waving in the wind.
“Please rainbird,” pleaded Eddie. “I really need to ask you something.”
There was a flutter and a flapping of wings. A beautiful brown and white bird settled on a branch overhead. Her eyes were bright, her strong beak turning this way and that as she looked at Eddie.
