Eddie and the Rainbird
The rainbird fluffed her feathers.
“Have you come to help us put out the fire?”
The rainbird stared at him silently.
Eddie smiled. “Gosh, I must have looked pretty silly falling out of that tree, huh?”
Then the rainbird flapped her wings, tilted her head back and opened her beak wide.
KOO-OO-OO-OO! KAA-AA-AA-AA! The most joyful, ear-splitting sound spread out over the trees and across the bay. And a dozen other kookaburras took up the call. KOO-OO-OO-OO! KAA-AA-AA-AA!
Eddie and Oskie and Mum and Dad all started laughing. And then something fell on Eddie’s head: PLOP! And then another: PLOP-PLOP! And then another: PLOP-PLOP-PLOP!
“YAHOO!” yelled Eddie. It was starting to rain!
