Oscar and Grandpa’s Motorboat
“Time to stop for lunch,” said Grandpa. “Hand me that rope, please, Oscar.”
He steered the boat over to the sand and switched off the motor. They both jumped off the boat and Grandpa tied it to a rock.
They found a grassy spot in the shade of a purple jacaranda tree. Oscar munched his sandwiches and fruit. As hewatched the gleaming sand and the shining water, asteadybreeze began to blow.
“Swisha, swisha,” went the jacaranda tree.
When they finished eating, Grandpa said Oscar could go and paddle his legs in the water.
Oscar found pretty shells and coloured pebbles in the sand. When he stood still, lots of tiny fish darted around his ankles.
A group of black and white pelicans waddled up and sat near them in the sun. They spread out their wings to dry and their huge throats flapped in the wind.
