Oscar and Grandpa’s Motorboat

“Grandpa, I can see an eagle circling up high, and now it’s landing on a tree.”

They steered around sailing boats and jagged cliffs, swaying gently through the water.

“Slippa, sloppa,” went the waves.

Oscar felt warm and drowsy and happy. He didn’t recall getting back to the wharf, or Grandpa taking him to the car.

He didn’t remember the drive home, or Grandpa carrying him into the house. He didn’t notice Mum and Dad putting him to bed and tucking Monkey in next to him.

Oscar wasrocking up and down on a dreamtime sea, swirling in an ocean of blue and green.

“Love you motorboat. Love you Grandpa,” whispered Oscar.
